Proceeds from cookbook sales to benefit Aloha United Way
Release Date: 10/15/2019
HONOLULU, Oct. 15, 2019 – Pre-sales of Hawaiian Electric’s latest cookbook Hu Ka Ono: Favorite Island Recipes from Hawaiian Electric’s Ohana and Friends have begun at www.hawaiianelectric.com/AUWcookbook. The all new, spiral-bound collection features 160 recipes from employees, retirees, family, friends, local chefs, and nonprofit partners, as well as energy tips for the home cook. Priced at $14, all proceeds will benefit Aloha United Way, the nonprofit organization celebrating 100 years of working to create lasting, sustainable change in our communities.
“We proudly support Aloha United Way and their contributions to our communities,” said Shelee Kimura, Hawaiian Electric senior vice president of customer service and executive sponsor of the internal campaign. “We are grateful to all of our ohana and friends who provided their favorite recipes to make this cookbook a success. With the holidays approaching, this is a good time to buy one for yourself and give another as a gift, knowing that your purchases are supporting those in need.”
Hu ka ono, meaning “so delicious,” reflects how each contributor felt about their recipe submission. The 180-page cookbook includes appetizers; soups, salads and dressings; side and main dishes; desserts; jams and jellies; “no cooking” required; and recipes for those on KETO, gluten-free or Paleo diets. From Crispy Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Honey Baked Shoyu Chicken and Li Hing Mui Spareribs to Poi Bread, Leopard Mochi, and Haupia Pumpkin Pie, the recipes highlight the diversity of local flavors and cultures.
Limited quantities of holiday gift-wrapped copies will be available at these Oahu craft fairs*.
