Community Spotlight
Hawaiian Electric grants total $30,000 for youth programs
Hawaiian Electric has awarded grants totaling $30,000 to three nonprofit organizations for their inspirational and educational programs that are helping shape Hawaii’s future leaders. Beyond classroom instruction, Hawaii Agricultural Foundation, Center for Tomorrow's Leaders and Na Kama Kai are engaging and equipping students with skills, resources and opportunities to reach their highest potential.
Hawaiian Electric honors Memorial Day weekend
Over the Memorial Day weekend, our employees, along with their families and friends, once again joined the Boy Scouts of America Aloha Council Pukahi District to place flags at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in honor of our valiant and dedicated service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
Visitor Industry Charity Walk
The Visitor Industry Charity Walk, hosted by Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association - HLTA, is now Hawaii’s largest single-day fundraising event by a non-profit organization. Since 1980 Hawaii Island has raised more than $5.7 million to support hundreds of diverse non-profit organizations on our island. This year’s charity walk on Hawaii Island was held at Waikoloa Bowl. Volunteers from our company joined dozens of organizations to show support for the community and enjoy good food, fun, and entertainment.
Hawaii Wildlife Fund
At Hawaiian Electric, we believe it’s important to serve as stewards for our islands. Together with our ohana and friends, we support organizations that preserve and protect our land, ocean and cultural sites. Kamilo Point is one example. Located in a remote area in the Kau Forest Reserve on Hawaii Island, the stretch of white sand beach is a nesting area for sea turtles and other native wildlife and plants.
A Family Affair: Malama Mauna Kahalawai
Hawaiian Electric employees and their family members, along with staff from Mauna Kahalawai Watershed Partnership in West Maui, spent several hours getting dirt under their fingernails as they cleared invasive weeds and planted 150 native aalii, iliahi and wiliwili trees.
2022 Kokua Champions: Purpose-driven community service
Helping others, paying it forward, serving and improving their community are common purposes that drive recipients of the 2022 Kokua Community Champion Service Award, a recognition for exemplary community service given by the HEI Charitable Foundation. The honor includes a $1,000 donation to the champions’ nonprofit of choice.
