Hawaiian Electric virtual community meeting on Oct. 20 to discuss renewable energy progress on Maui

KAHULUI, Sept. 23, 2020 – What progress is being made to power Maui with local, clean, and reliable resources? Hawaiian Electric will host a virtual community meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., to share updates on efforts to bring more renewable energy to the island.
Because of pandemic safety precautions that include social distancing, the public is invited to join this live virtual meeting by going to www.hawaiianelectric.com/communitymeetings. The meeting will be conducted via WebEx, an online video platform, accessible from a mobile device, landline telephone, or computer. The meeting will also be aired live on Akaku Maui Community Media channel 54 and the Hawaiian Electric Facebook page. Participants will be polled on various topics with the results posted during the meeting.
The following Hawaiian Electric panelists will discuss the current and future renewable energy efforts taking place on Maui:
- Sharon Suzuki, president of Maui County and Hawaii Island utilities
- Rebecca Dayhuff-Matsushima, director, renewable acquisition
"Reducing dependency on fossil fuel and using local, clean energy resources will strengthen our island’s future," Suzuki said. "Please join us for an opportunity to learn more about Maui’s progress."
