Hui Up for Resiliency aims to help residents with storm prep
Free community workshop set for Dec. 14

KAHULUI, Nov. 6, 2019 – In efforts to help homeowners prepare for severe storms, a free community workshop, Hui Up for Resiliency, will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the University of Hawaii Maui College (UHMC) campus, Laulima 225.
Presented in partnership with Maui Electric Company and UHMC – Office of Extended Learning, this debut event will feature construction industry professionals who will share ways to fortify homes in preparation for severe weather.
Presenters include: Mike Young, instructor and apprenticeship coordinator at the UHMC Office of Continuing Education and Training; Tim Waite from Simpson Strong-Tie Company; and Chris Vierra from Honsador Lumber Maui.
"As part of the workshop we constructed a 'mini' home model to help demonstrate how to retrofit older homes currently without hurricane clips," Young said. "We'll also be sharing how to install clips to protect your windows during storms."
Attendance by reservation only via email community.relations@mauielectric.com or call 872-3244 until Dec. 6, first come, first serve. The workshop is currently set for 30 attendees. Group reservations will not be accepted at this time.
