- In a large bowl, tear bread and soak in milk for at least an hour.
- Heat oven to 350°F.
- Pour butter in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, beat eggs with sugar and vanilla.
- Add to bread mixture.
- Stir in raisins.
- Pour into baking dish and bake for about 1 hour (or until an inserted knife comes out clean).
- Let cool, then cut into serving cubes.
Sauce:
- In a small saucepan, melt butter on low heat.
- Add sugar and stir until sugar dissolves.
- Whisk in egg yolk and cook until thicken.
- Remove from heat and add optional coffee liqueur or espresso coffee.
- To serve, plate bread pudding and top with sauce.
