Chocolate Chip Torte

Ingredients:

Chocolate Chip Torte

  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 5 tablespoons sugar, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup coarsely chopped semi-sweet chocolate, plus extra for topping
  • 1 9-inch pre made graham cracker crust
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup cream, whipped

Directions:

  1. In a bowl of electric mixer, beat egg yolks and add half the sugar, salt, and milk.
  2. In a medium pot on low heat, cook mixture until slightly thickened, stirring constantly.
  3. In a small bowl, combine gelatin cold water, and vanilla.
  4. Stir until gelatin is dissolved.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine egg yolk mixture and gelatin; chill until partially set.
  6. In a bowl of electric mixer, beat egg whites until soft peaks form.
  7. Gradually add remaining sugar, until stiff peaks form and all sugar is dissolved.
  8. Fold into gelatin mixture.
  9. Fold in chocolate chips.
  10. Pour into graham cracker crust and chill until firm.
  11. Add vanilla to whipped cream and spread over filling.
  12. Sprinkle with additional chocolate chips.

Serves 8.

TIP: For the perfect slice of pie, dip knife in a hot glass of water quickly, wiping it clean before cutting your slice of pie.
