Coffee and Cocoa Encrusted Sirloin

Ingredients:

Coffee and Cocoa Encrusted Sirloin

  • 2 tablespoons very finely ground Aikane Plantation Coffee (may substitute with your favorite coffee)
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, about 1-inch thick, trimmed of fat
  • 1/2 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions:

  1. Prepare and preheat a charcoal fire.
  2. In a pie plate or glass baking dish, combine coffee, cocoa powder and cinnamon; set aside.
  3. Rub steak with oil, then sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  4. Coat steak with coffee-cocoa mixture, rubbing it into the meat.
  5. Grill 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare.
  6. Transfer steak to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  7. Thinly slice across the grain and serve with collected juices.
