- Preheat electric oven to 350°F.
- Grease a 15 x 10 x 1-inch pan.
- Cream the 1 cup butter with the sugar.
- Add eggs and 2 teaspoons of the vanilla; beat well.
- Sift flour with soda and 1 teaspoon of the salt; stir in oats.
- Stir into creamed mixture.
- Set aside.
- In a saucepan, combine chocolate pieces, condensed milk, the 2 tablespoons butter, and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt.
- Melt over low heat, stirring occasionally.
- Mix in nuts and remaining 2 teaspoons vanilla.
- Spread 2/3 of oatmeal mixture in bottom of prepared pan; cover with chocolate mixture.
- Top with remaining oatmeal mixture, swirling it over the filling.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Cool and cut into bars.
Makes about 32 bars.
