Fudge Nut Bars

Ingredients:

Fudge Nut Bars

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar (can be reduced to 1 1/2 cups)
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 cups quick oats
  • 1 package (12 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 cup chopped macadamia nuts

Directions:

  1. Preheat electric oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 15 x 10 x 1-inch pan.
  3. Cream the 1 cup butter with the sugar.
  4. Add eggs and 2 teaspoons of the vanilla; beat well.
  5. Sift flour with soda and 1 teaspoon of the salt; stir in oats.
  6. Stir into creamed mixture.
  7. Set aside.
  8. In a saucepan, combine chocolate pieces, condensed milk, the 2 tablespoons butter, and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  9. Melt over low heat, stirring occasionally.
  10. Mix in nuts and remaining 2 teaspoons vanilla.
  11. Spread 2/3 of oatmeal mixture in bottom of prepared pan; cover with chocolate mixture.
  12. Top with remaining oatmeal mixture, swirling it over the filling.
  13. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  14. Cool and cut into bars.

Makes about 32 bars.
