Gingerbread Cookies

Ingredients:

Gingerbread Cookies

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup dark molasses
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. In large bowl of electric mixer, cream butter and sugar.
  2. Add eggs and molasses; beat well.
  3. Sift the remaining ingredients and add to creamed mixture; mix well.
  4. Chill dough until easy to roll.
  5. Preheat electric oven to 350°F.
  6. Grease baking sheets.
  7. On a lightly floured board, roll dough 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Cut into desired shapes.
  9. Place on prepared baking sheets.
  10. Bake 10 to 12 minutes; cool.
  11. Decorate cookies as desired.

Makes about 7 dozen 3-inch cookies.
