Local Style Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Ingredients:

Local Style Sweet and Sour Meatballs

  • 3/4 pound lean 90% ground beef
  • 3/4 cup fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds, toasted
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can (6 ounces) pineapple chunks
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 2 teaspoon low sodium shoyu

Directions:

  1. Combine beef, bread crumbs, onions, egg, salt, sesame seed, salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Shape into 2" balls, putting a chunk of pineapple in the center of each meatball.
  3. Heat oil in skillet, saute meatballs a few at a time, browning well on all sides.
  4. Cover skillet and cook on low heat until meatballs are done.
  5. Mix sauce ingredients in a small pan.
  6. Cook about 5 minutes, stirring constantly until thickened.
  7. Pour sauce over meatballs and serve.
