Mom's Okra

Ingredients:

Vegetable oil for deep frying
1 lb fresh or frozen okra
Cornmeal Coating

Cornmeal Coating:
3 cups yellow cornmeal
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1 tablespoon salt or 1 teaspoon seasoned salt mixed with 1 teaspoon McCormick® Season All

Directions:

  1. Heat oil to 375ºF.
  2. Rinse the okra and remove the stems; drain.
  3. Cut okra into 1/2-inch cubes.
  4. Dredge in Cornmeal Coating, fry in hot oil until golden brown.
  5. Serve immediately.

Makes 4 servings.

Cornmeal Coating:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, pepper, and salt.

Makes 4 cups.
