Pan Seared Steak with Caramelized Ewa Sweet Onion

Ingredients:

Pan Seared Steak with Caramelized Ewa Sweet Onion

  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 large Ewa sweet onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 pounds sirloin steak
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium beef broth

Directions:

  1. In a saute pan on medium low heat, add 2 tablespoons each of butter and olive oil.
  2. Add onions and cook, stir occasionally until caramelized, about 15 minutes; set aside.
  3. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Increase heat to medium and add remaining oil to pan; add steak and fry until brown, about 6 minutes on each side for medium doneness.
  5. Remove steak when done to likeness and set aside.
  6. Pour in beef broth into pan and scrape bits off the bottom.
  7. Add remaining butter and caramelized onion.
  8. Simmer until only 1/4 of the liquid is left.
  9. Serve onions with steak.
