Ingredients:
Shortbread Brownies
Try this delicious recipe from the Electric Kitchen!
Crust:
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
Brownie:
- 1 package (17 to 20 ounces, depending on flavor) Ghiradelli brownie mix
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1/3 cup water
Note: the amount of eggs, oil, and water may vary, depending on the brownie mix you have. For best results, follow the brownie mix's ingredient list and instructions.
Directions:
Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
- In a mixing bowl, cut butter into flour and sugar until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gently and evenly pat the crumbly mixture into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 15 minutes; set aside.
Brownie:
- In a mixing bowl, blend water, oil and egg(s) in mixing bowl.
- Add brownie mix and stir until moistened (about 40 strokes).
- Spoon batter over shortbread crust and spread evenly.
- Bake for 35 - 50 minutes (baking times vary depending on the brownie mix flavor).
- Cool and cut with a plastic knife.
Makes 24 bars.

Aloha, pre-made shortbread (like Walkers) can be used for the crust, but the ingredients and proportions will be slightly different. You will most likely need a few tablespoons of melted butter along with the crumbled shortbread.
