Stuffed Bitter Melon

Ingredients:

Stuffed Bitter Melon

  • 4 medium bitter melon
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 lb fish paste
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon cornstarch

Directions:

  1. Cut melon diagonally into 1 1/4 inch lengths; remove seeds.
  2. Combine remaining ingredients; stuff each piece of melon.
  3. Place in a heat-resistant pie plate or bowl and steam over boiling water for 25 to 30 minutes.

Makes 8 servings.

Stuffed Bitter melon Glaze:

  1. Combine liquid in pie plate or bowl with 1 teaspoon oyster sauce, 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch, 1/4 teaspoon sugar, and a little soy sauce.
  2. Bring to a boil, and cook until slightly thickened.
  3. Brush over stuffed bitter melon pieces.
