We're Here to Help You

Support for our Maui community

We have suspended bills for approximately 18,000 customers located in the affected areas on Maui to ensure that those who have experienced a loss can focus on their well-being and taking care of themselves and their families. The HEI Charitable Foundation and American Savings Bank have each donated $100,000 to assist recovery efforts.

In the weeks and months ahead, we will look for new opportunities to be there for our customers as their needs change.

Fee-free credit card transactions using the PayPal mobile app

We’re all used to the convenience and benefit of paying our bills with a credit card and at least getting some travel miles or cash back bonuses. Hawaiian Electric customers have long been asking for an option to pay their electric bill with a credit card without incurring a “convenience” fee. We're excited to share a new fee-free option.

Our new payment processor, Paymentus, currently has an agreement with PayPal: If you pay your bill using the PayPal mobile app, the normal Paymentus convenience fee ($1.99 per transaction for residential accounts) will be waived. The only catch is the payment must be made using the PayPal mobile app, not the webpage.

NOTICE: The residential payment fee for Paymentus, our electronic payment vendor, will be increasing from $1.99 to $3.25 effective December 1, 2023. Still available for a limited time, Paymentus transaction fees are waived when paying electric bills through the PayPal mobile app.

Advanced Power Strips for Savings

Advanced power strips make saving energy a snap!

Saving energy can be really challenging. Simple actions like turning off lights and refraining from opening the refrigerator door are easy enough, but other sacrifices — like opting to use fans instead of air conditioning on a hot afternoon — doesn’t always feel like it’s worth the trade-off, at least not in the immediate moment. Incentives like our Time-of-Use (TOU) program offer great savings, but shifting my energy use to daylight hours isn’t always feasible on days when I’m working in the office instead of my home.

Advanced power strips are an easy way to prevent phantom energy loss for those of us who habitually leave our devices plugged in. They save energy with minimal effort or mindfulness, and who can’t appreciate that simple method? So, swap out your regular power strip or surge protector for an advanced power strip, plug in your appliances and start saving energy automatically.

Appliance Energy Usage

How much electricity are your appliances using?

If you’re looking to better manage your energy usage, you can calculate the costs to operate your home appliances here. If you notice a spike in your electricity bill, it could indicate that one of your appliances may require maintenance or needs to be replaced altogether.
