FRIDAY UPDATE 4 P.M.: Power restored to majority of customers in West Maui

KAHULUI, Aug. 25, 2023 – Hawaiian Electric crews made significant progress in the past 24 hours, restoring power to nearly all customers in the West Maui area today and working to bring electricity back to a remaining pocket in the Upcountry area.
Crews safely completed repairs to restore a majority of customers in the Launiupoko to Olowalu area and are completing final steps to restore power to 50 customers in the Upcountry area.
Company representatives have been going door-to-door and using email and phone calls to communicate with customers to ensure safe and reliable electricity restoration.
Aerial inspections of the island’s electrical infrastructure continued in West Maui, South Maui and Upcountry.
More than 400 Hawaiian Electric employees and contractors from Hawaii Island, Lanai, Molokai and Oahu are on Maui to help with restoration work.
