Hawaii sees increased representation in national program advocating for women in clean energy
Hawaiian Electric, Elemental Excelerator CEOs named as leaders

HONOLULU, Oct. 17, 2022 – Hawaii’s representation in a national program devoted to increasing leadership of women in clean energy continues to grow with the selection of two Hawaii executives to the role of “ambassador” in the Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) Initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy.
Hawaiian Electric President and CEO Shelee Kimura and Elemental Excelerator CEO Dawn Lippert are among 12 women named C3E ambassadors. The program recognizes business leaders, government officials and academics who serve as role models and advocates for women in clean energy. Former Hawaiian Electric Industries President and CEO Constance Lau also serves as a C3E ambassador.
The C3E Initiative is led by the U.S. Department of Energy in collaboration with the MIT Energy Initiative, Stanford’s Precourt Institute for Energy and the Texas A&M Energy Institute. The ambassadors, who are invited to serve by the U.S. Secretary of Energy, include senior executives, academics, government officials and thought leaders. Ambassadors devote their time and resources to support the C3E initiative and help to steer its mission to increase the participation, leadership and success of women in clean energy fields.
Kimura was originally recognized by the C3E initiative in 2016 when she received the organization’s Business Award. Lippert received the C3E Advocacy Award in 2015.
