Hawaiian Electric to inspect utility pole attachments
Release Date: 5/4/2022
HILO, May 4, 2022 – Hawaiian Electric will inspect utility pole attachments at homes and businesses on Hawaii Island starting this week. Inspections will begin in the Hilo and Puna areas and then continue north and around the island through December 2023.
McLean Engineering (McLean) has been contracted to perform the inspections. McLean will fully document and inventory the utility’s poles and attachments, as required by a Public Utilities Commission order relating to a master license agreement for pole attachments.
Inspections will occur Mondays to Saturdays. Contractors will arrive in marked vehicles or on foot, wear a McLean uniform, and carry a Hawaiian Electric contractor identification badge.
Work will be performed at the pole(s) and no one from McLean or Hawaiian Electric will request to enter a home or business. There may be instances where McLean may need to enter private property, like a yard, to access a utility pole. In these instances, McLean will make their presence known before accessing the pole. Electric service will not be impacted.
