Commercial Facility
Commercial customers seeking to add EV charging services should work with an electrical design consultant to understand their installation options. Facilities including businesses, workplaces, and multi-unit dwellings may maintain their current commercial rate (such as Schedule J or Schedule P) or choose a new, separately metered EV rate to benefit from time-of-use (TOU) pricing (such as EV-J or EV-P). This EV TOU rate may help with bill charges resulting from high electrical demand.
For customers installing a new EV charging system, please complete a new electrical service application and note in the “Comments” section your desired rate (e.g. EV-J, EV-P, Schedule J, Schedule P, etc).
Customers wanting to switch rates of an existing, separately metered EV charging service (i.e. EV-F, Schedule J, Schedule P) can contact us at one of the following:
Hawaii Island
Commercial Pilot Rates
New commercial EV rates are available on Oahu, Maui County, and Hawaii Island as part of Hawaiian Electric’s continuing effort to boost EV use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ground transportation.
The five-year pilot program (2022 – 2027) will employ a time-of-use rate structure that incentivizes charging during mid-day hours when there is abundant solar energy flowing into the grid. The lower-cost mid-day period is designed to produce fuel savings for EV drivers compared with fuel costs for gas-powered cars, as well as compared with Hawaiian Electric’s existing rate options. The pilot rates are for electric vehicle charging only and requires site hosts to install a separate dedicated meter.
The new rates will benefit medium-sized commercial customers under Schedule EV-J and large commercial customers under Schedule EV-P. The biggest savings under the new rate structure are expected to result from the greatly reduced demand charges, which vary with intensity of use and can often be the largest part of a commercial customer’s bill.

Schedule EV-F
Schedule EV-F allows commercial customers to have separately metered EV public charging infrastructure on a time-of-use rate without a demand charge.
Schedule EV-F Electric Vehicle Pilot Rate is now closed to new enrollments effective July 31, 2022. The pilot rate will be in effect until June 2023.
