Apple Strudel

Ingredients:

Apple Strudel

  • 4 lb baking apples
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup almond slices
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 6 sheets phyllo
  • 1 cup clarified butter
  • Whipped cream or ice cream
  • Powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat electric oven to 350°F.
  2. Pare, core, and slice apples; place in large bowl.
  3. Add cinnamon, raisins, almonds, and bread crumbs; toss lightly.
  4. Brush each sheet of phyllo with some of the butter; stack sheets.
  5. Add remaining butter to apple mixture; mix well.
  6. Place apple mixture lengthwise on one edge of phyllo; roll like a jelly roll.
  7. Place, seam side down, on a baking pan; brush top with additional melted butter.
  8. Bake for about 30 minutes or until lightly browned.
  9. Cut into serving pieces.
  10. Top with whipped cream or ice cream; sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Makes 6 to 8 servings.
