Barbeque Hamburger

Ingredients:

Barbeque Hamburger

Barbeque Sauce:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 teaspoons prepared mustard
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

Burger:

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 6 hamburger buns

Directions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine barbeque sauce ingredients.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Set aside 1 cup barbeque sauce to serve with burgers.
  5. In a large bowl, combine egg, oats, 1/4 cup of the remaining barbeque sauce, garlic salt, pepper and salt.
  6. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well.
  7. Shape into six patties.
  8. Heat grill on medium heat.
  9. Grill burgers, covered on medium heat for 6-8 minutes on each side or until well done, basting with 1/2 cup barbeque sauce during the last 5 minutes.
  10. Serve on buns with toppings of your choice and reserved barbeque sauce.

Serves 6.

Tip: Don’t press down on a hamburger patty while cooking. Pressing the patty squeezes all the juice out causing a dry burger.

Tip: To keep your burger moist when grilling, place a small ice cube in the middle of your patty. As it cooks, the ice cube melts and distributes moisture through the burger.
