Batayaki

Ingredients:

Batayaki

  • 2 pounds thinly sliced sirloin steak
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup grated daikon (white radish)
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 8 large fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 cups chopped won bok (celery cabbage)

Directions:

  1. Cut steak in 2 x 1-inch pieces.
  2. Combine soy sauce, mirin, sugar, lime juice, sesame oil, and daikon to make dipping sauce.
  3. Heat skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter and quickly fry the steak until browned.
  4. Melt 1/4 cup more butter and saute the mushrooms and onions.
  5. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter and saute the won bok.
  6. Dip the meat and vegetables in sauce before eating.

Makes 6 servings.
