Bavarian Apple Tart

Ingredients:

Bavarian Apple Tart

Crust:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Filling:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
  • 2 large fresh local eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 medium (4 cups) tart apples, peeled, sliced 1/4-inch
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Dash ground cardamom
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In large bowl, combine crust ingredients.
  3. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until dough leaves sides of bowl and forms a ball.
  4. Press onto bottom of 10-inch spring form pan.
  5. Bake 10 minutes.
  6. In the same bowl, combine 1/2 cup sugar, cream cheese, eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  7. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until smooth.
  8. Spread mixture over crust.
  9. Place apples in another bowl.
  10. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom; toss to coat.
  11. Arrange apples in concentric circles over filling, pressing narrow end of apple slices into cream cheese mixture.
  12. Bake for 45 minutes.
  13. Sprinkle with almonds; continue baking 15-20 minutes or until center is almost set.
  14. Cool completely.
  15. Remove rim from spring form pan.
  16. Refrigerate until firm.

Makes 12 servings.
