Ham And Cheese Strata

Ingredients:

Ham And Cheese Strata

  • 12 slices day-old bread
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped smoked ham
  • 1 can (4 oz) diced Jalapeno chilies or chopped olives
  • 3 cups grated Monterey Jack cheese
  • 9 eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • 3/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon dry mustard

Directions:

  1. Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
  2. Place 6 slices bread in prepared baking pan.
  3. Sprinkle with ham, chilies or olives, and 1 1/2 cups of the cheese.
  4. Top with the remaining 6 slices bread.
  5. In a bowl, combine the eggs, milk, chili powder, and mustard; pour over bread.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  7. Remove from refrigerator and let stand for 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat electric oven to 350ºF.
  9. Bake for 30 minutes.
  10. Top strata with the remaining 1 1/2 cups cheese and continue baking for 30 more minutes or until set and lightly browned.
  11. Let stand before serving.

Makes 6 to 8 servings.
