Koulourakia (Greek cinnamon breadstick)

Ingredients:

Koulourakia (Greek cinnamon breadstick)

  • 1/2-pound butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar for garnish

Directions:

  1. Preheat electric oven to 350°F.
  2. With electric mixer on medium speed cream butter and sugar, mix for 1-2 minutes until combines.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time until everything is incorporated.
  4. Add 2 cups of the flour, baking powder and cinnamon to the butter mixture slowly to make sure everything is mixed in well.
  5. Remove batter from the mixer and add remaining flour.
  6. Mix the flour into the dough mixture by hand until the dough is pliable.
  7. Grease a cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
  8. Roll the dough into 4-inch long pieces; bend the dough in the center and twist.
  9. Line pan with the koulourakia,brush tops with melted butter, and sprinkle with extra cinnamon and sugar for garnish.
  10. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Makes 16 servings.
