- Boil 3 cups of water with cabbage, salt, sausage(optional), garlic(optional) & bacon grease (or oil) until leaves are tender.
- Mix the remaining 1 cup water with the cornmeal; add to the boiled mixture.
- Simmer until thickened, stirring constantly.
- Pour into an 8-inch square pan; chill.
- Slice into squares and serve or slice and coat with flour and fry in butter until browned and crispy.
