- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions.
- Heat olive oil in a pot over medium heat.
- Add onion and green pepper and saute for 7 minutes.
- Add garlic and stir for 2 minutes.
- Add tomatoes, pepper, dried basil and sugar.
- Bring to low boil and stir.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-3 hours stirring often.
- Simmer uncovered for the first half of the simmer time, then cover.
- Add cheese, fresh basil and oregano.
- Stir and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
