- In a large pot, brown ground beef and sausage; drain fat.
- Add onions, garlic, celery, green peppers, and herbs.
- Cook until celery and onions are tender.
- Add tomato pastes, tomato sauce and water, brown sugar and mushrooms.
- Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
Makes 6 servings.
Tip: When purchasing fresh herbs from the farmers market or picking from your garden, the best way to store them is to: 1) trim the bottoms of the stems; 2) make sure the leaves are dry; 3) partially fill a glass with water and place the herbs (stem ends) into the water; 4) cover loosely with a plastic bag and store in the refrigerator.
