Utility work on Farrington Highway in Makaha starts Monday, July 18; ends Thursday, Aug. 11

HONOLULU, July 15, 2022 - Hawaiian Electric crews will temporarily relocate utility poles and overhead lines along Farrington Highway in Makaha to accommodate construction for the state’s Makaha Bridge replacement project. Crews will be working off the roadway starting Monday, July 18; lane closure starts Friday, July 29.
Contractors will be digging holes for the new poles along the shoulder of Farrington Highway between Lawaia Street and Moua Street near Makaha Beach Park from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 18, to Thursday, July 28, weekdays only. No lane closures are planned over the two weeks.
A lane closure is needed 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, and weekdays only from Monday, Aug. 1, to Thursday, Aug. 11, as crews install poles and other equipment. Traffic will be contraflowed.
Electronic message boards will be posted in advance of the planned work. Safety signs and traffic cones will alert motorists ahead of the work zones where multiple bucket trucks will be staged, and flagmen will direct traffic.
Motorists should drive with caution when approaching and passing the work area and expect traffic delays.
