Sun Power for Schools
Haaheo Elementary School
On April 5, 2011, Haaheo Elementary School became the 8th public school on the Big Island to receive a Sun Power for Schools photovoltaic (PV) system. The 3.96 kilowatt PV system was installed on the roof of Room 9. With the installation, students can enhance their hands-on experience with renewable energy and learn how to harness the sun's power safely, effectively, and efficiently. The data collected from the PV system can be integrated into the students' curriculum while the power produced helps to reduce the school's electric cost.
System Details:
- 3.96 kilowatt (kW) rated peak
- 22 Trina Solar, 180 Watt (STC), mono-crystalline modules
- Sunny Boy SB4000-US inverter
- Internet-based data acquisition system, including wind speed, PV output, irradiance, and ambient air temperature
