HILO, March 4, 2025 – Hawaiian Electric crews will replace utility poles in Hilo on March 11 and March 20. The work will require intermittent or full road closures while the work is being performed.
On Tuesday, March 11, crews will replace a pole located near the company’s Puueo Hydroelectric Plant on Wainaku Street. There will be an intermittent road closure of Wainaku Street near the power plant, including the Wainaku Street bridge, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
On Thursday, March 20, crews will replace a pole on Akolea Road in Kaumana. There will be a full road closure of Akolea Road near Akolea Place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local traffic will be allowed through the work zone.
Message boards will be posted to alert motorists of the upcoming work. Flagmen will be onsite to provide traffic control. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and drive with caution when approaching and passing the work zone.
