Expansion of Service
In the 1960s, two mergers were completed. The first with Hana Light & Power in 1964 and the second with Lahaina Light & Power in 1967. The customer base increased to 13,250 and Maui Electric was now servicing the entire island.
During this time, Maui Electric also completed infrastructure upgrades. A new main office was built in Kahului in 1963. In 1964, Maui Electric energized its new 23-kv, 41-mile Hana transmission circuit. Two years later in 1966, Maui Electric added a 14,000-kv unit to its Kahului Power Plant.
On November 1, 1968, Maui Electric became a wholly owned subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Company.
