Powering Our Communities

Thanks to the strong support of renewable energy from the community, on July 10, Maui Electric received the 2003 National "Best Progress Award" from the Department of Energy's Million Solar Roofs Initiative (MSRI) in Portland, Oregon. The award was given in recognition of the 1,049 solar systems installed under Maui Electric's solar water heating program in 2003.

MSRI was established in 1997 with the goal of installing one million solar energy systems on American roofs by the year 2010. Maui Electric signed on as a partner a year later, and has counted well over 5,000 systems towards the national goal to date.
